As we see it, America seems to be on pretty shaky ground. From gun violence to global warming to book-banning to fascist rhetoric, we seem to have completely lost the ability for civil discourse and human connection. Theatre has always been a vehicle for exploring important, sometimes uncomfortable themes, and our 2024 Season will do just that.

We open with Philadelphia playwright James Ijames’s powerful and satirical play, KILL, MOVE, PARADISE, which explores the themes of stereotypes, fear, and threat of death that black men of all ages face every day. Next, we confront corporate greed and its impact on the environment as we stage our premiere musical theatre production, the very funny and pertinent THE TOXIC AVENGER. And we conclude the season with the brutally entertaining GOD OF CARNAGE, a comedy of manners without manners, delving into conflict and human nature.

Please help us keep the light of theatre and art burning brightly here in Camden by making a gift for our 2024 season.

We are thankful for your support and appreciate any gift you can give.

Please support our theatre with a gift to SCTC. Consider a gift of $50, $100, or $500 to help us meet our goal of $20,000 to help cover the costs of running the theatre and producing our professional productions.

SCTC’s Playreading Series Returns

South Camden Theatre Company is proud to announce the return of our New Play Reading Series, focused on helping new playwrights develop their skills, providing guidance for more experienced writers and seeking original plays for inclusion in our production season.

This is an exciting opportunity for our audiences to actively participate in the creation and selection of new works for our theatre through feedback and discussion. In addition to writers, we also invite actors and directors to submit to volunteer to work on the series.

Gene Terruso, former President of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, will serve as director of this new program. Gene is also President of the Philadelphia Dramatists Center and SCTC will be collaborating with them as part of the series.

Readings will take place on the third Monday of each month, beginning in May, and will be presented onstage at SCTC. If you have a script for consideration, or an interest in volunteering as either a director or actor, please send your information, along with a resumé and/or an attached script to CLICK HERE TO EMAIL and we will contact you with all the necessary information.

The area’s hottest “off-broadway” theatre

The Waterfront South Theatre, located just a block west of Broadway and Ferry Avenues in Camden’s historic Waterfront South neighborhood, is the first free-standing theatre built in Camden, New Jersey, in more than 100 years. This gorgeous state-of-the-art theater was designed to be reminiscent of Walt’s Cafe, the bar that once stood on this corner until 1967. Thanks to the Heart of Camden, The Domenica Foundation, Ignarri Lummis Architects, and others, this grand space has been home to South Camden Theatre Company since the fall of 2010.
